One of the highlights of Blacko Events Committee's programme to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty, the Queen, will be a dance in a marquee on the recreation ground on Saturday, 2nd June. There will be dancing to local band, Switch, and a disco. Tickets, costing £15, which includes a buffet meal, are available by ringing 616562. It's a "bring your own drinks" event!
On the Monday evening, we will light a beacon on Blacko Tower (by kind permission of Mr John Kay), as part of the chain across the country.
As a permanent reminder of the Jubilee, Blacko Events Committee has donated money on behalf of the people of Blacko to the Parish Council for a new oak bus shelter at the Rising Sun to replace the one destroyed by a hit-and-run driver a while ago. This will be another focal point for the Best Kept Village and North West in Bloom Competitions, with floral displays having a red, white and blue theme.
